Microsoft has today announced Steve Ballmer’s replacement (and its third CEO to date), Satya Nadella. Satya’s name might not sound too familiar to those who don’t pay very close attention to Microsoft’s corporate structure, but he’s a 22-year Microsoft veteran with a vast amount of experience and some important credits to his name. In addition to leading Microsoft’s Enterprise group in the past, Satya’s also had a large part in developing the company’s cloud infrastructure.
To help kick off this new era of CEO in style, Microsoft has launched a special page that gives some quick facts about Satya in addition to a number of assets related to the announcement. Born in 1967, Satya enjoys cricket and poetry, and has a BS, MSCS and MBA to his name.
Alongside this announcement is another small-but-important one:
Microsoft also announced that Bill Gates, previously Chairman of the Board of Directors, will assume a new role on the Board as Founder and Technology Advisor, and will devote more time to the company, supporting Nadella in shaping technology and product direction.
When Gates retired from his executive role at Microsoft, it didn’t take long to realize that he should have stayed-put. Microsoft hasn’t had the best past couple of years, with more misses than hits, it seems. With Gates able to devote more time to the company, and with Satya now at the helm, hopefully this means that the company will get back on the right track soon.
