Over the weekend, I received a press release from a company I haven’t heard of before, MingleStick, with an interesting product that allows you to quickly sync information with other people, effortlessly. On its latest product, the company has teamed up with our friends at Kingston to improve the drive and give it more than one purpose… syncing, and data storage.
The result is what the company calls the MingleStick +MEMORY, as it includes 2GB of Kingston memory in order to be used for normal flash drive purposes. What I find interesting about the MingleStick in general though, is that it essentially replaces the need for business cards at certain events, like the trade shows that we at Techgage attend from time to time.
How the technology works is that when two people have the MingleStick, they each press a button and sync up their information with each other. I’m not entirely sure of all the information that’s included, but it can be assumed that the information would be on par with what’s seen on a business card, with other options available.
The downside of the original MingleStick, in my opinion, is that it’s a device that just does one thing, and a niche thing at that. But with the addition of memory packed in, it means you could probably get rid of that extra thumb drive you were carrying around and condense it all into one. 2GB is not a lot of memory, though, so I’m surprised to see MingleStick not offering at least up to 8GB worth, but to be fair, I’d have to assume that 2GB is going to prove more than enough for MingleStick’s target audience. Availability will be soon, with pricing to be unveiled at that time.
MingleStick +MEMORY expands the capability of a traditional USB Flash drive by creating an interactive and engaging experience between two users. The device represents real life social networking that is extremely simple to use. People mingle with each other by simply pressing the button on the MingleStick. Users then return home to upload and view their mingle connections within an online account.
