The ambidextrous computer mouse, whether prosaic or gaming-oriented, is an ideal design concept. After all, pretty much everybody these days (even my little nephews!) uses a mouse, so the need is universal. But strangely, not every computer peripheral manufacturer has an ambidextrous mouse in its lineup. Right-handed mice dominate the market, and do so by a significant margin.
Mionix, from Sweden, introduced a new ambidextrous model: The AVIOR 7000. The company’s newest is a nine-button mouse suitable for both righties and lefties, boasting an ergonomic shape that should be good for both claw-grip and palm-grip users.
The AVIOR 7000 is equipped with a gaming grade ADNS-3310 optical sensor which, the company says, “delivers no positive or negative acceleration,” thereby ensuring that it is accurate and that it tracks smoothly. The ADNS-3310 sensor is capable of a maximum speed of 5.45m/sec (215 IPS) all the way up to 7000DPI. Also augmenting the AVIOR 7000’s excellent accuracy is its 32MHz ARM processor, allowing the optical sensor to be dedicated to its job of tracking the mouse’s movements.
Mionix has equipped the AVIOR 7000 with Omron mechanical micro-switches for optimal responsiveness, feel, and precision. Omrons are said to have a 20 million click lifespan.
The company says that a software package allows end users to take full advantage of the AVIOR 7000’s full feature set. This includes precise customization and control of each of the mouse’s nine buttons as well as a customizable LED lighting system. The LEDs are distributed between two lighting zones and can display up to 16.8 million color options; they can also display color shifts in a Solid, Blinking, Pulsating, or Breathing lighting effect.
The AVIOR 7000’s surface is coated with four layers of a soft-touch rubber coating. The coating endows the mouse with both maximum grip and superior comfort.
Finally, the AVIOR 7000 is equipped with Mionix’s Surface Quality Analyzer Tool (S.Q.A.T.). S.Q.A.T. helps assess what type of gaming surface is optimal for your mouse.
The AVIOR 7000 is available next month (you can pre-order now). MSRP is $79.99.
