We reported last week that following the discovery of overclocking being enabled for mobile GeForce GPUs, NVIDIA removed the “feature”. I use quotes there because allowing people to overclock their mobile GeForce GPUs was never meant to be. In fact, it’s something that NVIDIA would outright recommend people not do, on account of the fact that notebooks have more rigid thermal capabilities than our desktops.
That all said, it seems that the company has had a change of heart, proving that yes, it does in fact listen to the concerns of its customers.
Over at the official GeForce forums, NVIDIA employee Peter S confirms that overclocking will soon be returned:
Our recent driver update disabled overclocking on some GTX notebooks. We heard from many of you that you would like this feature enabled again. So, we will again be enabling overclocking in our upcoming driver release next month for those affected notebooks.
Peter further notes that if you’re in need of an immediate return of overclocking, your best bet is to downgrade to the 344.75 driver, which can be had here.
