Nikon Announces COOLPIX P3 and COOLPIX P4

Mississauga, ON, February 21, 2006 – Nikon Canada Inc. today announced the new COOLPIX P3 and COOLPIX P4; two compact, high-performance digital cameras that combine powerful resolution with an array of advanced, easy-to-use features to make picture-taking more fun and rewarding than ever.

Both COOLPIX P3 and COOLPIX P4 feature a 1×1.8-inch CCD and 8.1 effective megapixels of image resolution. This outstanding imaging power easily captures the fine detail of skin texture or the subtle colours of the human eye, and ensures shots are clear even when enlarged. The 36-126mm (35mm equivalent) Zoom-Nikkor lens gives you the freedom to zoom in for close compositions, even macro shooting at as close as 4cm, or zoom right out for panoramic scenery.

The most exciting new feature of the COOLPIX P3 and COOLPIX P4 is the innovative Vibration Reduction (VR) capability. Originally developed for Nikon’s renowned SLRs, lens shift VR capability is available in two modes. VR Active mode compensates for major camera movement so you get rock-steady results even while panning or shooting from a moving vehicle. VR Normal compensates for any minor movements that occur during hand-held shooting. VR also extends to movie shooting and helps support faster framing on the large 2.5-inch 150,000-dot LCD monitor.

The COOLPIX P3 comes with the freedom of wireless, offering Wi-Fi support to add to the fun. It’s easy to set up and lets you send images to a computer individually or in batches. You will also enjoy the freedom of printing your pictures cable-free to PictBridge-compatible printers*.

User-friendly features encourage creativity, help achieve excellent results

Thanks to the many advanced imaging features in the COOLPIX P3 and COOLPIX P4, you can shoot the way you want with consistently excellent results. The enhanced 11-area AF analyzes a larger area of the frame to give you more accurate autofocus. You can experiment with more imaginative compositions and still be assured of crisp, sharp results.

You can exercise your creativity with Aperture-priority Auto Mode’s 10-step manual aperture control in 1/3EV steps. Select large apertures for attractive background blurring, or stop down to small apertures to extend crisp focus into the distance, while the camera automatically selects the best shutter speed for optimized exposure. An easy-to-understand on-screen histogram helps you avoid under or overexposure before even pressing the shutter.

There is also a range of Advanced Scene Modes (9 Advanced Scene Modes; 7 Scene Modes) that gives photographers the ability to capture a single scene in different moods through the use of three effects that adjust brightness, colour intensity, sharpness, noise reduction and more.

You can capture the action as it happens with continuous shooting at up to 1.8 frames per second. With the 5-shot buffer feature which records the last five images taken, you won’t miss a thing.

Images can even be improved in-camera through the use of three innovative Nikon functions. Face-priority AF** cleverly detects human faces to achieve sharp focus, no matter where are in the frame. Detecting the annoying red-eye effect that can sometimes occur in flash photography, In-Camera Red-Eye Fix provides automatic compensation for more flattering, natural-looking portraits in low light. Nikon’s unique D-Lighting function, available in playback mode, improves underexposed images or shots taken with too much back light by adding light and detail wherever necessary and leaving well-exposed areas untouched,

Use the COOLPIX P3 and COOLPIX P4 to shoot movies at up to 30fps, with choice of three sound modes. Additional time-lapse movie mode lets you take pictures over a long period of time and then create movies out of them by speeding up the action. Like all COOLPIX cameras, both models come bundled with Nikon’s complimentary and exclusive PictureProject software. Now featuring special Wi-Fi functions for use with the COOLPIX P3, PictureProject adds even more possibilities to digital photography.
