Nikon Announces COOLPIX S6
Digital compact camera featuring new photo-sharing entertainment and attractive wave-surface design
Mississauga, ON, February 21, 2006 – Nikon Canada Inc. today announced the COOLPIX S6; an exciting, attractively styled camera built for sharing your digital photographic enjoyment with others. With a brand new, super-slim, wave-surface design, COOLPIX S6 looks as good as it performs.
The COOLPIX S6 provides 6.0 megapixel resolution, 3x Zoom-Nikkor ED lens with a range of 35-105mm (35mm equivalent), in-camera image improvements, and the exciting new Pictmotionâ„¢ technology.
Available for the first time, the imaginative Pictmotion™ function lets users create so much more than a slideshow, offering totally new in-camera entertainment. Users can select favourite images, movie files and styles, and then select one of five pre-installed music files, or even add their own music (via PictureProject for Windows® only). Pictmotion™ automatically analyzes all elements to produce highly entertaining shows with pace and transition designed to match music and style. These shows can be played back anywhere, anytime, on the large 3.0-inch LCD monitor,. As the monitor offers a surprisingly wide viewing angle of 170° (both horizontal and vertical), such in-camera entertainment can be enjoyed by everyone at the same time. The COOLPIX S6 also features Auto Image Rotation, which detects pictures that have been taken with the camera held vertically and automatically rotates them to suit in-camera LCD playback.
The conveniently placed new One-touch Portrait button gives you direct access to Nikon’s three unique in-camera image improvements. Face-priority AF* automatically detects human faces anywhere in the frame, helping you get sharply focused portraits. In-Camera Red-Eye Fix corrects the red-eye effect that often spoils flash photography, while D-Lighting corrects improperly exposed shots by adding light and detail where necessary.
The COOLPIX S6 delivers the additional advantage of Wi-Fi capability. With IEEE 802.11b/g support, it allows users to send images wirelessly to a computer as soon as they are taken or to transfer all images stored in memory to computer in one step. The COOLPIX S6 even supports cable-free printing**, enabling images to be sent directly to PictBridge-compatible printers without using a computer at all.
A selection of 15 Scene Modes, four with Scene Assist, lets you achieve pleasing results with clear focus and optimal exposure in diverse situations. All you have to do is select the Scene Mode best suited to the scene and compose the shot, while the camera automatically selects the most appropriate settings.
Finding and browsing your stored images is easy. The handy Calendar function automatically sorts images according to the date they were taken while the convenient new Rotary multi selector lets you scroll and view pictures at up to 10 frames per second. Three movie modes with sound let you capture action at up to 30 frames per second and the Time-lapse feature gives you yet another creative tool.
The COOLPIX S6 comes complete with the COOL-STATION MV-15 that lets you recharge your batteries while still in the camera, offers USB connectivity, and direct connection for TV display. It comes bundled with Nikon’s complimentary PictureProject software, now featuring special Wi-Fi functions.
