Nikon Canada Announces D40x Digital SLR
Nikon’s smallest 10.2 megapixel digital SLR offers intuitive operation
Mississauga, ON, March 6, 2007 – Nikon Canada Inc. today introduced the Nikon D40x Digital SLR, the sister camera to Nikon D40. The D40x offers many advanced digital technologies found in Nikon’s professional digital SLR (D SLR) models, but is incredibly easy to use and affordable, making it ideal for first-time D SLR buyers.
Loaded with Nikon’s exclusive 3D Colour Matrix Metering II, an improved image processing engine, and superb Auto White Balance, the D40x is equipped to produce truly high-quality images. When combined
with world-famous Nikkor lenses, these features help to ensure perfect exposure, refined details and natural, vivid colours. The camera’s 10.2-megapixel CCD image sensor makes it easy to produce large prints or perform extensive cropping without losing fine detail.
The D40x offers a near-instant power-up time of 0.18 seconds, as well as a continuous shooting mode that makes it possible to capture up to 100 JPEG images at speeds up to 3 frames per second. The camera’s razor-sharp autofocus ensures crisp images in a wide variety of shooting situations. Photographers will also benefit from D40x’s incredible battery power of up to 520 images per charge, and wide ISO sensitivity of 100 to 1600, plus HI-1.
Nikon’s market-leading i-TTL flash control simplifies flash photography, automatically evaluating ideal flash exposure in any lighting situation. The camera’s rotating mode dial gives users access to Eight Digital Vari-Program modes, offering creative shooting options, optimized for common shooting situations. For further control over aperture and shutter speed, P/S/A/M modes are also available.
The D40x’s retouch menu offers exclusive Nikon in-camera image editing features, such as D-lighting, which rescues underexposed images or shots taken with too much backlight by creating a copy of the image and adding light and detail where necessary, while leaving properly exposed areas alone. Photographers can also easily correct red-eye, or apply Monochrome effects to convert an image to Black-and-White, Sepia Tone or Cyanotype.
The D40x and its sister model, the D40, are Nikon’s smallest and most compact D SLR cameras, each offering the same ergonomic design and streamlined interface for intuitive operation. The bright viewfinder eases composition, while the 2.5-inch large LCD monitor, with wide viewing angle, makes for easy menu navigation and image viewing. Entry-level users will appreciate the built-in Help menu, providing access to key camera features at the touch of a button.
