The future of Windows RT as a platform is uncertain (a point Brett discussed in detail last month), so it’s almost ironic that this is the point where we finally get to see the long-rumored RT tablet from Nokia. In development for over a year, it became a little unclear whether or not we’ve ever see this come to fruition, but in a way, it’s actually a bit of a relief – something in me just hates to see people’s hard work go to waste.
So what are we dealing with here? The Lumia 2520 comes in at 10.1-inches (IPS, 1080p, 218 ppi), and should offer some good performance with its Snapdragon 800 SoC under the hood running at 2.2GHz. For mobile wireless, there’s LTE support, and with its super-bright 665cd/m2 display, Nokia welcomes you to burn your retinas while using the tablet indoors or out.
Other key features: 6.7 megapixel camera, 32GB of storage, 2GB of RAM, 8,000 mAh battery (25 days standby, can charge 80% in an hour), NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, HDMI-D (micro), 1x USB 3.0 and a whole lot more.
Once released in Q4, the Lumia 2520 will be available in red and white in a gloss finish, or cyan and black in a matte finish. As mentioned in the title, it will retail for $499. Also set to launch alongside the 2520 is the ‘Nokia Power Keyboard’, which in addition to adding a keyboard to the tablet, will add five extra hours of battery-life.
