Novell Introduces Portable Training for SUSE Linux Enterprise
Innovative training offering makes learning about Novell’s Linux platform easier than ever
WALTHAM, Mass. – June 21, 2006 – Novell has unveiled a new, comprehensive training course for SUSE® Linux Enterprise 10 completely self-contained on a portable USB drive. The SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 First Class course provides users a first look at the upcoming SUSE Linux Enterprise 10, including both the new server and desktop products. As a result, customers gain a flexible, cost-effective new option for learning about Novell’s latest platform.
“The new Novell portable training course is a very effective introduction to Novell’s new Linux platform,” said Leslie Myers, information systems specialist for the city of Liberty, Mo. “It provides both the basic content as well as a virtualized machine environment to let students see the product in action. Novell is making it easy – and cheap – to learn about SUSE Linux Enterprise.”
The SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 First Class course comes on a USB device complete with the learning content and an installed instance of the beta SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and Desktop 10 on a virtual machine. This gives the student a unique environment to study the lecture and then gain hands-on experience using the virtual machine to do exercises. The USB device will run on both Windows* or Linux,* giving students complete flexibility in how, and where, to study.
Novell demonstrated the USB-based training course at its BrainShare® conference in Salt Lake City in March, completely selling out its beta kits at the event. Novell also offers an instructor-led training option of the course, still leveraging the USB device. Novell is currently offering the SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 First Class course across major cities in Canada, the U.S., Europe and Asia-Pacific. The USB kit is also available online directly from Novell at www.shopnovell.com.
“SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 is setting a new benchmark for a commercial Linux distribution, and our innovative approach – putting the complete initial training course on a USB drive, which we believe is an industry first – sets a new bar for ease of use of training, as well,” said Daniel Veitkus, vice president for training services at Novell. “Students can simply plug this into their computer and, via a virtualized machine experience, gain quick hands-on experience on the new platform.”
