In mid-November, NVIDIA made a number of cool announcements, with arguably the biggest being that its GRID cloud service was becoming official. As the service had been in beta for quite some time prior to that, it was a bit of a relief to finally see the company pulling the trigger – it meant that some tasty updates were in store.
At the time of that announcement, NVIDIA promised that it’d deliver new games to the service each week, and so far, it’s held true to that: 8 titles were added in the first month. Despite 8 being a small number in the grand scheme, the blend of titles released so far has been excellent – there’s something for everyone.
Not only has GRID been enhanced with new titles, the actual app portion has been overhauled. With Android Lollipop’s debut on the SHIELD Tablet, NVIDIA noted that its SHIELD Hub app would be updated, and as we quickly saw, that involved merging the standalone GRID app into the Hub app – it’s all about convenience. With this merging also came tweaks to the UI. Now, you’ll be able to see many more games at once when exploring GRID (not only on the SHIELD Tablet, but also the portable), and overall, I’d say it looks quite good.
The eight titles released to GRID in its first month are:
- Batman: Arkham Origins
- LEGO Batman: The Video Game
- LEGO The Lord of the Rings
- LEGO The Hobbit
- Red Faction: Armageddon
- PixelJunk Monsters Ultimate
- Psychonauts
- Stacking
The screenshot above is a direct in-game shot of LEGO The Hobbit, and in my quick test, it performed just as I’ve expected – very smoothly (when you turn off your active downloads, that is!).
A great first month for GRID, it goes without saying. I’m looking forward to seeing what NVIDIA has up its sleeve for the next month.
