Taiwan’s Computex 2015 event has just kicked off, and NVIDIA has wasted no time in getting a handful of announcements out the door. We covered the biggest one last night, in the form of a GTX 980 Ti review, but also notable are updates that are hitting NVIDIA’s G-SYNC.
To start, it looks like we predicted the future a few weeks ago: support for G-SYNC in windowed mode is here. This has been a heavily requested feature ever since G-SYNC launched, and as someone who recently discovered just how useful windowed full-screen mode can be, I am glad to see the support finally here.
It seemed inevitable, and now it’s almost here: mobile G-SYNC. It should be noted that if you plugged a current GeForce-equipped notebook into an external G-SYNC monitor, it’d work just fine; but with these specific notebooks, G-SYNC will be supported on their own display. NVIDIA notes that models from AORUS, Clevo, MSI, and ASUS are en route. The ASUS model is an update to the G751 we took a look at in April.
On the desktop monitor front, there are a lot of new models coming, including Acer’s Predator, or X34:
A full list of upcoming models can be seen in the shot below. Considering the fact that it’s mostly two vendors leading the G-SYNC charge, it’s great to see that there’s quite a bit of variety. Both the ASUS PG34Q and Acer X34 sound dreamy to me; both are 34″ panels that support 3440×1440, although the Acer comes ahead in the refresh rate game. Interestingly, that Acer looks like a spitting image of the XR341CK we talked about in April.
I’m not entirely sure when these monitors will begin to hit the market, but it seems likely we’ll see a few of them this summer, including Acer’s X34.
