Nvidia has officially removed XFX from its list of partners. XFX was well known for distributing high end and often overclocked graphics cards based on Nvidia GPUs. The action by Nvidia may come as a surprise to some, but XFX has not produced a Graphics card based on the Nvidia Fermi Architecture, and in 2008, it stopped being an exclusive distributor.
Nvidia has lost a fair few partners over the last few years, BFG being the last. Is it due to the economic climate? Late release of the Fermi Architecture? News of Nvidia distributing its own graphics cards to Newegg and Bestbuy is looking more like a survival strategy rather than a cash in. The currently listed partners are Asustek Computer, EVGA, Elsa Japan, Gainward, Galaxy, Gigabyte, Innovision, Leadtek, MSI, Palit, PNY, Sparkle, Point-of-View and Zotac.
AMD will soon be releasing the Radeon HD 6000 series of graphics cards which will help XFX and apply more pressure on Nvidia. I guess the question is, who’s next for the chopping block on the list of partners.
XFX is a division of Pine Technology Holdings, a manufacturer and marketer of solutions for the worldwide gaming technologies market. Founded in 1989, Pine designs, develops, manufactures and distributes high-performance video graphics technology and computer peripherals. XFX itself was founded in the mid-2000s and had been exclusively selling Nvidia-based graphics cards until late 2008. After that the relationship between the two companies has been getting worse.
