When NVIDIA announced its SHIELD back in March, we were promised a late May release. As it happens, that’s exactly what we’re being given. The release comes at a coincidental time, too. Google’s I/O conference just kicked off today, so what better time than now to release one of the (or the) fastest Android devices on earth?
As has been anticipated, NVIDIA is offering two versions of its SHIELD. The regular edition is $199, and includes a meager 16GB of onboard storage. The Pro model, by contrast, sports 500GB and a copy of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, which will be released on July 1.
As the table above highlights, both versions of the SHIELD have feature parity; they support 4K, the SHIELD Controller, voice search, have USB 3.0 ports, gigabit Ethernet, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and a couple of temporary perks: $30 Google Play credit and 90 days of Google Play Music.
SHIELD accessories include a $50 remote control with voice search, a $30 stand, and of course, the SHIELD Controller, priced at about $60.
