As we made clear last week, CES can bring an overwhelming number of product announcements, and while that’s sometimes rough as a consumer, it’s even worse for companies trying to stand out. It’s for that reason that some companies decide to wait until after CES to announce a certain product, and that’s just what NZXT has done with its DOKO in-home PC game streamer. For good reason – this thing is hot.
DOKO isn’t the first of its kind, so it tries to be the best. The goal here is no-nonsense – hook it up, and get to gaming. NZXT has tried to compensate for some of the shortcomings of competing solutions, like NVIDIA GameStream and SteamOS, and by all appearances, it’s done a great job.
Hooking DOKO up to a TV is as simple as connecting the power, LAN, and HDMI cable. To game, we’d presume an app would have to be installed on the source PC, and because control is important, the DOKO includes 4 USB ports. If there’s an immediate shortcoming to DOKO, it’s that it can only transmit in 30 FPS. Why that limitation exists, I’m not quite sure, as it is possible with some other solutions (eg: GameStream).
In the video above, NZXT founder and CEO Johnny Hou explains what makes the DOKO so great, but I admit that the best quote from the entire video came from PC gamer Rob Teller. Emphasis mine:
“DOKO means to me, the ability to build a kick-ass gaming PC, and have it on my desktop … and take that experience and bring it over to my television. And, without spending $400+ on an inferior console, I get that same amazing PC experience on my desktop as I do my TV.”
Available now, the DOKO retails for $99.99 and can be purchased at NZXT’s own website.
