It seems that someone, or something has it out for our friends at NZXT. I didn’t catch it, but either late Sunday or all day Monday, NZXT’s official site was hacked. Aside from much of the database being purged, for products and other things, a mass e-mail was sent out via what I suspect would be NZXT’s forums (although I didn’t receive an e-mail, despite being a member there) that stated that the company was going out of business. As NZXT has a rather loyal following, I can only imagine the mayhem that ensued.
NZXT is not going out of business, and there’s no reason to even believe there’s an inch of truth to it. The company just redesigned its entire website mere months ago, unveiled a couple of kick-ass products since (like the Sentry LXE fan controller we just awarded an Editor’s Choice), and have more en route. We were even shown product at last month’s Computex that we couldn’t talk about, so I couldn’t be more confident in knowing that the company is here to stay.
The interesting question though, is who did it? Who has it out for NZXT and feels that the company is becoming too large a threat? Well, you can of course speculate, and I have my own speculations. Chances seem very slim to me that it just happened to be a devout fan of a competing company that would go through such trouble. If anything, this attack just makes NZXT look even better.
Here’s a verbatim quote from NZXT’s head product designer and manager Johnny Hou:
To our friends and loyal customers in the PC enthusiast community,
Yesterday at 7:30 PM PST the NZXT website was infiltrated illegally. While having access to the site, hackers made several malicious changes including sending out an erroneous newsletter to our database claiming that NZXT is going out of business. They also changed product warranties, deleted product and home page banners, etc.
Well, I’m happy to report that NZXT is NOT going out of business and to the contrary we are more excited than ever to be a part of this tremendous industry. We are poised to launch several highly anticipated products over the next two months including the Phantom full tower case we unveiled at Computex. We feel this will provide enthusiasts with one of the most fresh and unique case designs in quite some time.
I’d like to take this opportunity to offer my sincere gratitude to the community for your ongoing support of NZXT. We design our products based on what you need to build a stellar PC and welcome your feedback as to how we can help your computing experience be as enjoyable as possible. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions.
Best regards,
Johnny Hou
