OCZ Technology has just updated its Talos line of Enterprise SSDs. Second-generation Talos 2 drives will utilize a dual-ported SAS 6G configuration. Where the previous Talos drives were stuck in a 3.5″ form factor, Talos 2 will be a 2.5″-sized drive yet offer capacities ranging from 100GB up to an impressive 1TB in size.
Talos 2 will leverage OCZ’s Virtualized Controller Architecture 2.0 for intelligent command queuing and improved load balancing in the name of performance – and speaking of, OCZ quotes a peak of 70,000 4K IOPS, but SSD size nor if this applies to reads or writes is mentioned. OCZ does include that under mixed workloads (75% read, 25% write) performance can peak at 42,000 8K IOPS, though.
In addition to its dual-ported Serial Attached SCSI nature, Talos 2 will include DataWrite Assurance to provide in-progress write protection in the event of a power loss. Furthermore it includes the option to enable T100-DIF. Data Integrity Field allows for the insertion of 8 bytes of data during transfers to provide additional layers of ECC validation and monitoring.
“The Talos 2 SAS solid state drives expand on the original series by offering enterprise customers superior performance, reliability, and density all in a compact footprint,” said Ryan Petersen, CEO. Talos 2 will be available in MLC, eMLC, and SLC NAND configurations up to 1TB in capacity through OCZ’s business-to-business channel.
