Within days after the launch of the new OCZ heatspreader design, the positive feedback and reception of the look and idea behind the unique XTC design was overwhelming. Now just shy of four months since the release of XTC memory solutions, rave reviews have poured in from hardware reviewers and prominent enthusiasts.
Known for thinking outside of the box and developing innovative solutions for enthusiasts, OCZ wanted to engineer a new thermal solution for their high-performance memory. Modern memory modules implement conventional, solid heatspreaders that provide sufficient heat dissipation but do not adequately address the build up of heat pockets. The new Xtreme Thermal Convection Heatspreader design tackles this problem and more.
The objective of the innovative OCZ XTC (Xtreme Thermal Convection) heatspreader is to optimize the thermal management of memory modules by promoting greater airflow by means of micro-convection throughout what is usually the dead air space inside conventional heatspreader designs. In this manner, build-up of heat is avoided and thermal dissipation of the memory components is offloaded more efficiently through the honeycomb design. At the same time, mechanical stability is maintained.
Numerous distinguished Media Reviewers had this to say about OCZ XTC Heatspreaders:
“OCZ’s innovative XTC heatspreader’s advanced design allows more air flow thus yielding a much higher heat dissipation than previous heat spreader designs.” Xtreme Systems.org
“OCZ has done a great job with the new implementation of their XTC heatspreaders and reaching out to the gaming market. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinions, but I believe that the XTC heatspreaders are very sexy. The use of those heatspreaders will be great for enthusiasts who want their parts to run nice and cool.” –Insanetek
“These heat spreaders do an excellent job at keeping the modules cool and look amazing. Each module has a “Z” embossed at the center and memory information on a sticker at the left.” – 3DGameman.com
“This honeycomb design allows heat to escape much easier – in fact keeping them cool is much easier. For the folks that put fans over their memory this will actually cool the ICs through the heatspreader, not just to blow air onto the heatspreader. In any case I believe this new design is a win-win design all the way around.” – 3DXtreme
“OCZ has done a great job with the heatspreaders, not only do they look gorgeous they also lower your memory temperature considerably and so increase the overclocking potential.” – TechPowerUP
“The Xtreme Thermal Convection design certainly helped in eliminating the dead air space around the modules in addition to simply a greater amount of airflow coming in contact with the RAM” – Phoronix.com
“OCZ is constantly creating innovative products with new features, one of which is XTC (eXtreme Thermal Convection) heatspreaders which seemed to be working as intended because we did not encounter any memory overheating problems.” – Bytesector.com
“A lifetime warranty is just one of the features that should convince you to buy their (OCZ) products, you also get great performance and the new XTC heatsink that cools of your memory better than the traditional heatsinks on the market.” -RBMods
“As for the new OCZ heat spreaders, throughout testing I had a digital thermal probe installed inside each stick of ram and monitored the temps. The OCZ ran on the average of 5c cooler than the Ultra at the max OC settings. I know that’s not a lot but in the world of overclocking, every degree cooler helps. Throughout the entire test period the OCZ performed flawlessly; I have no problem recommending this ram to anyone looking for memory for a new system or upgrading an older one.” -OCIA
“Keeping the temperature of the modules at 40C with no active cooling and high voltages is definitely no luck, these XTC heatspreaders really do their job well.” –Overclockers Online
