OnePlus has proven itself to be great at crafting amazing smartphones for reasonable prices, but one thing it’s not good at is keeping a secret. The rumor mill has outed the company’s upcoming OnePlus 3T smartphone, and today, the company has decided to tell us that it’s coming – without being explicit about it. You can see what I mean with one of the company’s latest tweets:
The OnePlus 3 featured Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 SoC, and even before this tweet was made, it was assumed that the 3T would bump that up to the 821. Now we know that for sure. The 821 is little different from the 820, but it’s faster, and that’s what counts. The 820 in the OP3 was clocked at 2.2GHz for its fastest two cores, whereas the 821 will boost that to 2.35GHz. The 821 also gives the GPU a ~29MHz bump, improving the graphics performance just a smidgen.
In its tweet, OnePlus said “T-7”, which could be a double entendre. On one hand, when this tweet was made yesterday, we were 7 days out from the announcement; on the other, it could be a joke about the name of the phone, “T”.
Like the OP3, the OP3T will have the same basic frame, including its 5.5-inch screen. That screen is rumored to have been upgraded, though will retain the same resolution. It’s also expected to ship with Android 7.0, which might rub some OP3 owners the wrong way as their phone has yet to receive the update (it should come next month).
As of right now, we don’t know what the OP3T will cost, or whether or not it will replace the original. It could be that OnePlus will charge a premium on the 3T model and keep the OP3 around for a bit longer – until the OP4 gets here. Either way, we absolutely loved the original OP3, so we expect good things from the 3T.
