Overkill’s PAYDAY 2 came out last August, and it’s good. Well, if you’re into committing virtual crimes, that is. We’re talking robbing banks and jewelry stores, infiltrating gang territory to scour for information, and, for some reason, running around a mall, smashing everything in sight.
The reason I’m writing about the game now, is because there’s a free weekend coming up at Steam (plus a discount of 66% on purchasing it), and I wanted to give some advance notice. I’m not the greatest PAYDAY 2 player out there, but I’ve put over 100 hours into it and can highly recommend it to anyone who wants a truly challenging co-op game.

Like all good co-op titles, you’re able to choose a skill tree that you want to focus on, and as you’d expect, the better the mix between players, the better the experience (usually). Recently, Overkill released the ability to save skill profiles, so now you’re able to go into one mission with a certain setup, and then go into the next one with an entirely different one.
Just in time for this free weekend, Overkill is releasing a brand new, completely free heist. What makes this one interesting isn’t the fact that it takes place in a derelict warehouse on a smoggy night. Instead, it’s the fact that this is the first heist in the entire PAYDAY series to require stealth to complete. It’s no doubt for this reason that the company finally gives us the ability to save and switch profiles, and since I’ve never tried to stealth many missions, I am looking forward to trying my luck with this one.
It’s presumed that once the game goes on sale, all of its DLC will, too. And, I must say, at 66% off, it’ll be quite a good… steal.
