To most, routers are just boring boxes that sit there and stream the Internet from the outside, in. It’s hard to imagine that anyone would put ASUS’ RT-AC5300 in that same “boring boxes” category, though. It’s the kind of “ultimate” router you didn’t even know could exist. It sports eight antennas that enable two 5GHz connections at 2167Mbps. That’s even higher than its USB 3.0 performance of ~100MB/s, and WAN to LAN speed of 1,800Mbps. To complement this insane speed, the router also includes a robust UI ripe for tweaking, allowing you to perfect your entertainment and gaming experiences. See? This is an “ultimate” router, something its $350 USD price tag can explain better than I can.
Another thing that makes ASUS’ RT-AC5300 unique is that it looks like something out of a movie, either a monster, or an upside-down spider. Whatever you think it looks like, it’s apparently unique enough to catch the attention of the Photoshop masters over at /r/photoshopbattles. I have picked a few personal favorites for inclusion here, but I’d encourage visiting the thread and seeing all of the creations.
Remember that time the RT-AC5300 helped host a wrestling match?
How about the time it doubled as the claw in a claw machine?
Or the time our cities were infiltrated with the pesky things?
Of course, the RT-AC5300 isn’t only into clawing into things. It can also team up with friends and create cool art:
And here’s one that might hit your nostalgic bone; a visit from the RT-AC5300 to Dr. Kleiner, from Half-Life.
