It’s official: Sony’s PlayStation 4 is launching in North America on November 15th, and in Europe on November 29th. This isn’t quite the October timeframe that’s been long-rumored, but it does keep November as the favorite month to launch a console (Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 were all released in November – people just love to spend $$$ that time of year).
I don’t believe Microsoft has announced a specific date, but it has mentioned November for certain. If Amazon can be believed, then we might just see it on November 27th.
With the launch of these consoles happening at just about the same time, it’s going to be very interesting to see how things fare leading up until the end of the year. The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 launched a year apart, so things weren’t quite as exciting in that regard. Then we have the various debacles that came out of the Microsoft camp a couple of months ago, for which it’s still trying to recover from. Momentum is building for Microsoft’s latest console though, so it’s definitely up in the air which of these companies will gain the upper-hand this holiday season.
