Razer has just updated its popular BlackWidow Ultimate keyboard, and for those who love cool lighting effects, it’s going to be well-worth checking out. Called the BlackWidow Ultimate 2016, this plank makes use of Razer’s own mechanical switches, and has been “built from the ground up” to offer the most compelling feature set to date.
The keyboard’s aesthetics won’t take anyone by surprise: it’s pure black, with lots of green backlighting. While backlit keyboards are nothing new, the amount of customization this one manages to pack in – despite offering just a single color – is impressive.
For a quick taste, I’d recommend checking out the official video:
For those who can’t watch the video, there are a number of different modes, such as one that rolls the color left to right (or vice versa) like a wave, and one that’s really neat that pulses the light under keys as they are pressed. You can also make the colors “dance” around if you want. Of course, if you’re not in the mood for special lighting, it can be turned off entirely.
In addition to that enlightening feature, the latest BlackWidow Ultimate also offers a smudge-free top cover, an audio/microphone dual jack, a USB pass-through for easy cable management, and an improved indicator to the top-right.
Razer’s co-founder and CEO Min-Liang Tan says, “There isn’t a gaming keyboard out there that offers better value”, and it’s hard to disagree. The 2016 BlackWidow Ultimate comes in at $109.99 USD, and is available now in US/Canada and Latin America. It’ll become available at some point later in the quarter in Asia and Europe.
