The release date for Windows 10 still isn’t locked-in, but it seems Microsoft is wasting no time in preparing us for it – even if we don’t realize it. In late March, an update (KB3035583) was released through Windows Update that lays the groundwork for upgrading to the upcoming OS.
As Myce reports, this update creates a folder under ‘System32’ called ‘GWX’, and inside are a number of executables relating to the big update. If you hover over ‘GWXUXWorker.exe’, you’ll see the description ‘Get Windows 10’. It doesn’t get more clear-cut than that.
If your PC automatically grabs the latest updates, you should be able to find this folder on your Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8+ PC right now. Not surprisingly, the executables don’t do anything, but it does make me wonder why Microsoft decided to roll them out so soon. Perhaps it’s just the company’s way of keeping us talking about Windows 10?
Those sly buggers.
