If there’s one thing that’s guaranteed to get me excited, it’s chatter of classic video games. With that being the case, Digital Eclipse has definitely perked my ears up with its announcement of Mega Man Legacy Collection, a compilation to be released this summer that includes the first sixMega Man titles.
Digital Eclipse used to be about developing its own games, but starting with Mega Man Legacy Collection, it aims to “restore” classic video games and deliver them in such a way that they remain true to the original. The company compares its efforts to the Criterion Collection that exists for film.
Releasing verbatim copies of aged games might not appeal to a great number of people, so Digital Eclipse helps sweeten the deal by adding new modes and other perks. On the features front, there will be a challenge mode, replays, and leaderboards, while for perks, the company will be bundling in classic assets that revolved around a respective game, such as sketches and other artwork. I think it’d be awesome if they could also include old video game articles, but something tells me that’d be easier said than done.
Mega Man Legacy Collection is going to be hitting the PC, Xbox One, and PS4 this summer, and the Nintendo DS this winter. All of the digital versions will cost a mere $14.99.
