Rockstar has today announced GTA Online, a free game that will be bundled with Grand Theft Auto V. This isn’t some minor add-on, though. All multiplayer is based around a persistent world, so it’s not a mere matter of queueing up with friends in a lobby to indulge in some co-op fun. There’s little information about the game so far, but it’s clear that most or all of it will be based in the same world as GTA V. Rockstar has released a trailer, which can be seen below:
Yup – I’d have to say that looks like quite a bit of fun. An online counterpart isn’t new to GTA, as there was one with GTA IV, but this looks to take things to an entirely new level. And speaking of level, I’d be interested in learning whether or not people will actually have levels in this game, given we’re dealing with persistent worlds. One thing you will be able to do is earn cash, used to buy clothing, cars, garages, apartments and so forth.
More than ever, I really wish Rockstar would hurry up and announce GTA V for the PC.
