As if Intel’s new Sandy Bridge processors couldn’t get any bigger, Acer has announced that they plan to launch two or three new tablets based on the 2nd generation core architecture.
One will feature a 7 inch screen while the largest will have a 10 inch, and both will run an Android operating system. Claims are that they will be faster than laptops running Windows and will use all four cores.
Acer plans on using these new models to gradually phase out their netbooks based on market demand for tablets. It will still continuing to produce netbooks but are looking to reduce the number of models.
Launch prices and any further specifications are not available.
Acer will begin selling two or three new tablet PCs in the first half of the year, including one with a seven-inch screen, a company sales manager said on Monday. The tablet launches will begin a gradual replacement of Acer’s small laptop-style netbook computers, in line with market demands, Taiwan sales manager Lu Bing-hsian said.
