In order for any hardware to be a success in the technology world, it has to be a fresh idea that offers something that the competitors don’t, but still be completely functional. Shogun Bros. look to cover all of these points with the release of its Chameleon X-1 mouse. I mean game controller. I mean remote. What do I mean? It’s all of these rolled into one!
To start with, the Chameleon X-1 is a 1600 DPI, optical mouse that looks very much like the Logitech MX518. Under the cover it features a 2.4Ghz wireless transceiver and comes with an alkaline battery, which can be switched out for a rechargeable one. Flip the mouse over and you have a wireless game controller complete with force feedback. The 16 buttons on the underside of the mouse can be accessed by holding the start button down for three seconds. Finally, the unit can be used as a media remote by holding the select button down in a similar fashion. Users can access iTunes, change tracks, volume and shut down the computer along with other various functions.
While the Chameleon X-1 has some weak points, it certainly is a fresh idea, which I am sure is the first of it’s kind on the market. It could also stand to reason that we may see more of these hybrid peripherals if it can be done right, without any one mode suffering at the expense of the other.

Some strange combinations make perfect sense paired, but how about the mouse and the PC gamepad? Those two items are what a Hong Kong peripheral manufacturer decided to combine, and the result was the Shogun Bros. Chameleon X-1 — a gaming mouse you can flip to find twelve buttons and two miniature analog sticks on the bottom. It works as a gamepad, sure enough, and functions as a one-handed multimedia remote too.
