The moment those who’ve been waiting for ‘Welcome Back’ details is over, as Sony has laid out its “customer appreciation” program across three of its regional blogs. In total, gamers in North and Latin America and also Europe will be gifted two PlayStation 3 games and/or (it’s not too clear) two PlayStation Portable games. The game choices don’t differ too much across the three regions, which could be considered a great thing.
The choice of free games are as follows:
North and Latin America – PS3
- Dead Nation
- inFAMOUS
- LittleBigPlanet
- Super Stardust HD
- Wipeout HD + Fury
Europe – PS3
- Dead Nation (Replaced with Super Stardust HD in Germany)
- inFAMOUS (Replaced with Hustle Kings in Germany)
- LittleBigPlanet
- Wipeout HD + Fury
- Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty
North and Latin America; Europe – PSP
- LittleBigPlanet (PSP)
- ModNation Racers
- Pursuit Force
- Killzone Liberation
It’s important to note that to claim your two games, you need to take action within 30 days of the PlayStation Network being fully restored. The blog post isn’t too clear whether or not the games can be claimed right now, but the process of grabbing them should be enabled soon.
Super Stardust HD
Past the free games, Sony has also detailed other bonuses that this package brings. First, there will be a selection of “On Us” (as in, on Sony’s dime) movie rental titles that will become available over one weekend, where the service is available. For those who don’t have a subscription to PlayStation Plus, they will receive one free month, while subscribers will see a 60-day extension on top of their subscription.
Music Unlimited Premium trial subscribers will see 30 days added onto their trial subscription, while subscribers will see the same, but also have the lost time tacked onto that. Finally, for PlayStation Home gamers, there will be 100 free virtual items to peruse, and additional free content in an upcoming update.
Overall, this welcome back package is a little more interesting than I originally expected. Some of the games in the above lists are quite good, and can cost upwards of $15 each, if not more in some cases. The other bonuses on top just make it an even sweeter deal. What do you guys think? Did Sony hit the sweet-spot, or could it have done better?
