We wrote earlier about some affordable 4K FreeSync monitors from Samsung, so let’s talk a bit about some pricier models from Sony. On account of the fact that the X900C and X910C are full-fledged televisions and come in at under 0.2 inches thick, it’s not hard to understand why Sony’s latest 4K models are “pricier”.
The X900C will come in both 55- and 65-inch flavors, while the X910C has a sole 75-inch model. As is typical of increased screen sizes, moving up the ranks in this lineup can get expensive. For example, while the 55-inch model can be had for $2,499, the 65-inch model tacks on another $1,500. For the big gun, the 75-inch, you’ll have to shell out $5,499.
What’s mind-blowing about these TVs is that at under 0.2 inches thick, they’re actually thinner than a smartphone – the iPhone 6 is 0.3 inches thick. That realization makes me cringe a bit when I picture the durability factor of these televisions, but I think it goes without saying, you won’t want to be roughhousing around one.
Neither of these screens are “dumb”, either; both include Android TV, and can take advantage of PlayStation Now so that its users can stream PlayStation 3 games and play them with a Dualshock 4 gamepad.
Sony’s opening up preorders for the X900C series now, and units are expected to ship next month. The X910C will make its debut later this summer.
