It’s an exciting time of year. As the industry looks to close out the current year, it shifts into over drive in preparation for the next, and with the new year comes CES. While it’s easy to get lost in the press releases, one that captured our attention and made us listen is the announcement by Synology of its second commercial router, the RT2600ac.
Long known for its popular line of NAS offerings, Synology released its first entry into the home router market, the RT1900ac early last year. In our evaluation of that router, we found it to be competitive with other AC routers on the market though the star of that review was SRM, or Synology Router Manager. Like its NAS cousins, the router’s software was polished and expandable.
New today is the Synology RT2600ac, a 1.7GHz dual-core 802.11ac Wave 2 certified router. Featuring MU-MIMO support, the RT2600ac was designed for multiple devices to connect at full ac speeds. When Smart Connect is employed, the RT2600ac can intelligently optimize connection quality between both 2.4GHz and 5GHz radios for maximum wireless speed and range.
“With a growing demand for faster and smarter Wi-Fi,” says Product Manager Michael R Wang, “consumers are looking for high-performance routers that can reliably service an increasing number of devices. With SRM and its collection of packages available, users can adapt their RT2600ac into a versatile VPN, RADIUS, and file server capable of streaming media.”
The RT2600ac is currently available in all APAC regions with additional availability in early January 2017.
