It’s been a quiet few months where the Synology camp is concerned. Short of addressing security vulnerabilities, the company has quietly bided its time until today, with the release of its 4-bay DS415+. Armed with an Intel Silvermont-based Atom quad-core 2.4 GHz CPU and 2GB of DDR3 RAM, the DS415+ promises averages of 228 MB/s read and 234 MB/s write under a RAID 5 configuration in a Windows environment.
With the ability to utilize the still-somewhat-new Synology High Availability (SHA), the DS415+ can be paired with another comparable NAS in an active/passive type configuration. That means that should the primary NAS fail, the secondary NAS immediately picks up all running services and compute responsibilities.
Additional features include an upgrade from 1GB to 2GB of system memory, a higher number of maximum accounts and folders, and a 60% increase in camera connection capability, allowing up to 40 connected cameras streaming their feeds to the DS415+.
We’re not sure of the DS415+’s pricing at the moment, but it should begin to pop up at etail in the days ahead.
