Last month, the overriding theme of CES was the “Internet of Things.” The focus on this was so great that Samsung’s CEO, BK Yoon, crafted his entire keynote around the idea of the connected world.
A good example of the idea of the connected world is home automation. As more and more devices become accessible from the outside the home, possibilities open up for their uses. For example, the home surveillance market has exploded over the past few years. One of the leaders in NAS-based home surveillance, Synology, has just released its latest version of software. Called Surveillance Station, version 7.0 promises to build on the success of previous versions by supporting more cameras and sporting a redesigned UI.
With an emphasis on ease-of-use, Synology has focused on its new UI by building it from the ground up. With improvements to responsiveness and multitasking, 7.0 promises to be the company’s best Surveillance Station yet. Also sporting ONVIF 2.4 compliance and the ability to integrate with external locks, alarms, and other devices, Synology looks to bring the “Internet of Things” closer to a reality with Surveillance Station 7.0.
