As the Pokemon GO craze continues to engulf the world, it seems like every possible business on Earth is taking advantage of it. Perhaps we should rename ourselves to TechGO? We’ll schedule a team meeting to debate that one.
Not long after GO was unleashed on the unsuspecting public, jokes were made about how the biggest benefactors of the game would be mobile carriers. Data isn’t free, and a game like Pokemon GO could use an awful lot of it if someone isn’t careful (people have walked off cliffs while playing, so it’s not a stretch to say someone could accidentally exhaust their data). While the game may not technically use much data (we don’t have figures on it), many people are playing it a lot – all of those megabytes will add up.
Well, who other than the trendiest major carrier going to capitalize on this craze and offer an intriguing deal? That deal would be free data for use with Pokemon GO – and only that game, to be clear.

While it’d be great to see this deal become automatically applied to customer accounts, T-Mobile is making it an exclusive offer inside of its T-Mobile Tuesdays app (Android; iOS). That means that as of this coming Tuesday, you’ll be able to open the app and opt into the deal. If you happen to miss it that day, you’ll have to wait until the following Tuesday to take advantage.
If you do take advantage of this deal, you’ll be able to enjoy free data with Pokemon GO for an entire year. Whether the game will still have the hype surrounding it a year from now as it does at the present is anyone’s guess.
In addition to that deal, T-Mobile is also offering free Lyft rides up to $15 to help you get to a new PokéStop or Gym (I can’t believe I am writing this), a free Wendy’s Frosty to help fuel your hunting expedition, as well as 50% off select accessories to help you prolong the amount of time you can hunt for.
You’ve got to hand it to TMO – it knows how to offer enticing deals.
