“THERE WERE MORE TOYS on the IDF show floor this year, with a few being definite standouts. LSI had an 8 port SATA-II RAID card on the show floor, but the SAS devices were the stars of the booth. They had a demo of SAS scalability in a box, or three boxes. The LSISAS3800x card is a 8 port SAS controller, it was running into a box with two LSISASx12 12 port SAS expander. These had 8 drives each for a total of 16 in that box. This was cascaded into a 12 port box with all bays filled. In total, you had the card powering 28 drives, several cascaded off each other, that’s a lot of spindle for a single card.”
8 Port SATA-II card? Dayum.. better have a good sized case. Check out the article at The Inq.
