I really try not to get over-excited about projects on Kickstarter. Personally, I think that many projects are on Kickstarter because they are either not viable for the market, or the proprietors are not able/willing or viable themselves to work with investors. Having said that, I will not ignore the successes that have come from crowd-sourcing, most noteably Pebble, Elio Motors, numerous video games, movies, novels, and so on.
One item in particular caught my attention, what looks to be a very helpful adjunct to our digital living, and that is the Carloudy. Carloudy in a nutshell, is an extension of your smartphone, that works with voice commands on your phone, and is a heads-up display the windshield of your car or truck.
Let’s face it, fumbling around with your phone while driving is dangerous, and cumbersome. Sure you can put your phone in a mount system, but it still takes you taking your eyes off the road, and with people like me with larger phones, it’s not easy getting a giant phone into a mount – enter the Carloudy. The Carloudy rests on the dash of your vehicle, and works with Google Maps and has turn by turn navigation. The maker claims it works perfectly in bright daylight or at night, and is completely wireless, and the runtime on the battery is about two weeks.
Since this is on Kickstarter, that means it is still under development so some of the details are still being worked out, but I personally think that this platform has potential. Carloudy has already broken their goal, but there are still packages available for purchase. You can check out the project on Kickstarter here.
