A lot of people might not admit it, but I’m willing to bet that deep down, we all have a soft spot for epic or hilarious deaths in video games. Well, at least I do. Be it falling accidentally off of a cliff or getting hit by a car when crossing the street, I can’t help but snicker. Heck, some games outright glorify epic accidents or deaths, so I know I’m not alone.
Some of these other twisted individuals exist as editors at Maximum PC, it seems, as they just put together a “Top 25 Brutal Deaths in PC Gaming” list, with a handful of games I expected to be listed, and a bunch unexpected or unknown. How about taking down the Battlelord at the end of the LA Meltdown episode in Duke Nukem 3D? Or building a roller coaster in Roller Coaster Tycoon with no end cap on purpose to see a group of folks fly off of the end?
Other fun deaths take place in Limbo, Phantasmagoria, Soldier of Fortune: Payback, Postal 2 and much more. If you’re as sick and twisted as I am, or at least close, give the top 25 a gander.
Of course, a top list like this would be no fun without reader input, so what are some of your favorite deaths, or perhaps just violent accidents, that you’ve experienced in video games? My most recent memory is with Tony Hawk’s Project 8, believe it or not. There are certain challenges where you must try to break as many bones as possible after making a jump, and yes, it’s hilarious (it’s worth noting that Trials has a similar mechanic).
