While we adults fuss and fight over which tablet is best, won’t someone think of the children? Well, it seems Toys “R” Us has. The company has just unveiled its Tabeo tablet, a 7″ offering that will become available just in time for the holiday season, but can be pre-oredered now for $150. How Tabeo differs from other tablets is that it’s designed with kids in mind, and while it’s sure to offer educational software, it’ll come pre-loaded with fun games as well, including Angry Birds.
The Tabeo features a 1GHz processor, 4GB storage (expandable up to 36GB with a 32GB SDHC card), WiFi, a front-facing camera, HDMI out, a special Tabeo store said to have over 7,000 apps – and funny enough, Flash support. As a kids product, it’s designed to be more durable than a regular tablet, so it includes a “drop-safe bumper”. Perhaps most important for parents, it also includes parental controls.
While the market is beginning to see more and more $200 tablets, Tabeo has incredible potential here. It’s affordable, designed specifically for kids, and based on Android. The possibilities are huge.
As mentioned above, the tablet is being sold for $150, and pre-orders are available now. Expected shipping date is October 1.
