TRENDnet has its hands in a good number of networking-related product categories, and over the years, we’ve taken a look at products from most of them. Perhaps surprisingly, powerline adapters hasn’t been one of them, although I can still back them up as being solid solutions – I’ve been using a TRENDnet kit for about three years, and it’s served me well.
If I do have one beef, though, it’s that their range is limited, as well as their performance. At least one of those issues is taken care of with the company’s just-announced 1200 AV2 models – the range. Both the TPL-420E2K and TPL-421E2K are spec’d to support an electrical setup of up to 5,000 square feet, and TRENDnet boasts “ultra stable” signals to make sure that each computer’s connection keeps steady.
One of the biggest perks with powerline adapters returns to this kit: the ease of use. Once each end is plugged into its respective power socket, they’ll connect automatically. In the event you already have some TRENDnet powerline adapters in use, you can exchange the security keys by using the built-in sync button.
Available in February, the TPL-420E2K will retail for $99.99. This kit is best for those who don’t mind a plug being taken up. For those that do (like me), there’s the TPL-421E2K, which tacks on $10. Those wanting that kit will have to wait until March, unfortunately.
