We might have just survived another holiday season, but it looks as though Valve can’t shake its giving mood, as it’s just launched another sale. This one has an interesting angle, and it might be the first time it was used: highest-grossing. While this has to be one of the easiest sales to produce, it gives us as players an idea of which games truly slayed the charts this year.
Valve has awarded the best-sellers by category: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Some of the games featured in the Platinum category (seen below) shouldn’t come as much of a surprise: No Man’s Sky ($35.99) is of course present, as is Civilization VI ($53.99), Xcom 2 ($29.99), Dark Souls III ($29.99), Total War: WARHAMMER ($44.99), and Tom Clancy’s The Division ($24.99).
All of those games are to be expected, quite frankly, but some of the others might not, as they were released before 2016. Those include The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt ($19.99), Rocket League ($11.99), Fallout 4 ($19.79), and of course, Grand Theft Auto V ($29.99). All of these games came out in 2015, but two also listed came out even earlier: 2012’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive ($10.04), and 2013’s Dota 2 (free-to-play, but with market support).
That’s just covering the absolute top of the crop. If you’re at all bored, looking for a new game to play, you’re bound to find something very quickly at the sale page. If you’re short on cash, you have plenty of options available to help you catch up on older titles that you may have missed, such as Payday 2 ($4.99), Civilization V ($7.49), City Skylines ($7.49), and an absolute must-play for FPS fans: Borderlands 2 ($4.99).
