While many vendors are taking advantage of the ongoing VR revolution to offer “VR Ready” products, ASUS is having none of it. Instead, the Taiwanese company wants to take things a step further, and offer “Beyond VR Ready” products. Touché, ASUS.
With its Beyond VR Ready program, ASUS is certifying a huge number of its products for use with VR, which includes its motherboards, graphics cards, and gaming PCs. A number of products were certified before the program became official, and the company will continue certifying future products as they arrive.
We’ve harped on the fact before that VR gaming will require a beefy PC for ideal gameplay, and ASUS’ lineup of Beyond VR Ready products backs that up. The “smallest” graphics card recommended is the ~$380 Radeon R9 390 and ~$320 GeForce GTX 970 – two choices that we’re sure won’t surprise anyone. Again, VR requires a lot of horsepower.
In total, ASUS certifies a total of 17 graphics cards, some of which are based on the same GPU core but are part of a different series. On the motherboard side, though, there are 30 certified products. While you’ll undoubtedly be splurging on the graphics card for VR, the motherboard choice will be a lot more lenient. ASUS even lists its ~$93 B150-PLUS as one of the options.
