As a complete sucker for gaming nostalgia, an article published at TechSpot last week caught my eye. Titled “A Stroll Down Memory Lane: Best 3dfx Glide Games“, the article takes a quick look at a couple of awesome games that supported the 3dfx Glide API, powered by the ultra-popular Voodoo series of graphics cards.
At the time of 3dfx’s popularity, PC gaming was beginning to become very pretty. While most who didn’t own a Voodoo put up with pixely graphics, Voodoo owners took their experiences to a new level. 3D rendering was so attractive at the time, that some games required it. One such game was Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, a game I could only play via a 3dfx emulator, as I couldn’t afford such a GPU at the time (surprisingly, the emulator worked well).
In the article, classics like Quake II, Interstate ’76 and Tomb Raider II are mentioned, but I have a collection of games I feel warrant some kudos as well (and I’m sure you do, too). Rollcage was a major one for me… the colors, unbelievable. Or how about Re-volt, the awesome RC racer that let you explore cool worlds from the floor’s-eye-view? Then there’s SiN, Moto Racer, Unreal, Unreal: Tournament, M.D.K., and… am I forgetting one?
What Glide games do you fondly remember?
