Battle of the beasts!
“Both processors have proven to give top of the line performance in certain areas, and while neither chip truly dominated the performance charts, both processor lines continued to sell fairly well. Fortunately for us, both companies are hungry for a bigger slice of the workstation pie, which forces them to try to up the ante once again. As simple clock speed boosts don’t seem to have the effect they used to, both Intel and AMD have worked improving their processor lines all around, with not only with performance adding features like higher clock speeds and more cache, but improved instruction support and the ability to consume less power.”
Good lengthy writeup, and you can check it out at GamePC.
