When so many of the available top-end graphics cards on the market are all sorts of bulky, I get excited whenever a company decides to do their best to whittle down the size, offering the same performance in a smaller form-factor. While the need for this kind of thing is really quite niche, it’s nice to have the option.
In the past, we’ve seen the likes of GIGABYTE come out with an “ITX” model GeForce GTX 1080, while ZOTAC pushed things to another level by delivering a small form-factor GTX 1080 Ti. Now, the company has gone even further, catering to those planning to build (or already have) a liquid-cooled SFF PC. The ArcticStorm Mini is for liquid-cooled PCs, and only liquid-cooled PCs (so fortunately, it’s not the only option).
Interestingly, ZOTAC doesn’t seem to have the card listed on its own website yet, but our friends over at TechPowerUp have the scoop. The total length of the card is 8.35-inch, which is basically identical to the air-cooled variant that’s already launched. If there’s an immediate downside to this liquid-cooled design, though, it’s that it still takes up two slots, despite the block itself supporting a one-slot cooler. On the upside, many motherboards nowadays take into account dual-slot GPUs, so a single card shouldn’t cause any issues (though dual might, in an SSF rig).
ZOTAC had actually announced this card many months ago, so for it to take so long to hit market might be a little disappointing, but even more disappointing than that might be the fact that there still doesn’t seem to be a price affixed to it. So, if you want this card, keep your eyes peeled to your favorite e-tailer.
