It’s impossible to ignore the push of VR right now. It seems like every PC vendor has a system available touting amazing VR support, and even Sony’s PlayStation 4 just gained its own VR solution. Admittedly, though, given the sheer amount of VR news that’s trickled out over the year, it’s hard to be continually impressed with every new release. ZOTAC has made an exception, though, with its Magnus ERX480 – a VR-capable machine that could fit just about anywhere.
The Magnus ERX480 measures in at 8.27″ x 7.99″ x 2.45″, which equates to “really freaking small”. So small, in fact, that you’re probably wondering how an Intel integrated solution could handle VR. This is where I’d correct you: this super-small PC somehow includes AMD’s full-fledged Radeon RX 480 – you know, the one that AMD released with a massive VR focus this past summer.
Clearly, given the size of this PC and the size of a standard RX 480, ZOTAC has worked with AMD to make sure a PC like this could happen. According to its website, ZOTAC equips its ERX480 with Intel’s Core i5-6400T quad-core processor, Bluetooth 4.2, 802.11ac wireless, dual gigabit Ethernet, 8GB of DDR4 (upgradeable to 32GB), a 120GB M.2 SSD, and a plethora of ports on the front and back.
The power supply included with the ERX480 is spec’d for 180W, so overall, this VR-ready PC is quite modest both in size and power draw.
ZOTAC is offering three versions of its ERX480, with one requiring the user to install their own memory and storage, another preequipped with all hardware, and another that comes with Windows preinstalled.
Unfortunately, we’re not sure of what pricing looks like right now, as we haven’t been able to find the ERX480 available at any etailer. We’d expect that to be fixed soon.
