AMD’s had a pretty busy 2023 so far, especially where CPUs are concerned. At CES, the company announced three 65W Ryzen models, in addition to three others that have been infused with 3D V-Cache. Today, the company has announced both pricing and availability for those latter SKUs (the 65W parts were officially released last month).
Both the Ryzen 9 7950X3D and Ryzen 9 7900X3D are going to become available on February 28, while the Ryzen 7 7800X3D will come later – April 6. Interestingly, the 7800X3D and 7900X3D carry a $50 price premium over the 7700X and 7900X, respectively, while the top-end 16-core 7950X3D is priced identically to the 7950X:

The fact that the 7950X3D is priced the same as the 7950X is intriguing, as it seems like a no-brainer to opt for the 3D V-Cache version. That said, some might find the slightly higher clock speed of the regular 7950X to be preferable for creator work – as we found in our 5800X3D review that the extra cache will not impact most creator workloads. If you’re a gamer, though, the 3D V-Cache model will be a no-brainer.
Naturally, you’ll want to wait for reviews before taking the plunge, but it’s hard to imagine the benefits on these new chips won’t be similar to those that we saw with the 5800X3D. We’re really glad to see AMD offer more than one 3D V-Cache SKU this generation – now those needing more than 8 cores in addition to more cache have additional options.
