ASUS Announces The Ultimate Gaming Monitor – Quantum Dot, 200Hz, G-Sync, HDR, 35-inch Ultrawide

If there were check-boxes for every feature I’d want on a monitor, the ASUS ROG Swift PG35VQ would tick every single one of them, and I do mean, every single one. At Computex, ASUS showed off this beast of a monitor and I’m giddy with excitement. So just what makes this monitor so special?

At 35-inches, its not only big, it’s ultrawide too. With an aspect ratio of 21:9, the 3440×1440 resolution is all about immersion. At Techgage, we’re pretty smitten when it comes to ultrawide, as it does more service to games than 4K ever could, significantly increasing what you can see in game. In fact, all of our high-end GPU reviews cover ultrawide benchmarks, offering the benefits of a lower performance hit compared to 4K, and without the complications of multi-monitor setups. Oh, forgot to mention, it’s curved too.

The PG35VQ also adds many of the new features that have been cropping up into monitors, and they all add something of value. With a refresh rate of 200Hz, this monitor will almost never miss a frame, especially with G-Sync enabled. The backlight is illuminated by 512 individual LEDs with zone control for significantly improved dynamics, and at 1000 nits of brightness, it should be able to fill a room with blinding light.

The two key features that really seal the deal on this, is the inclusion of HDR, conforming to the HDR10 standard for that wonderfully rich contrast that comes from the 10-bit LUT. To make sure those colors are not just rich, but accurate too, the PG35VQ comes with Quantum Dot technology too, allowing it to hit the high 90 percent range on the DCI-P3 color palate (although still yet to be confirmed).

Oh course, with such a huge array of features, the question of price does come to mind, and as you’d expect… none was given, at least not at this time. There is a very good chance that this won’t be cheap though, and if I had to guess, easily talking $3000, possible more, since finding ultrawide panels that can handle the 200Hz overdrive is not going to be easy. Still, we can all dream of owning such a gorgeous panel.
