The original Rage, which was released in 2011 as a semi-open-world shooter, impressed the masses overall. On PC, there were some issues that kept people unhappy for a time, but ultimately, the game felt like a commercial success… something proven by the fact that we’re now talking about its just-announced sequel.
And damn, does it look good! Check out the gameplay trailer (if your eyes feel confused, it’s because the trailer is only 30 FPS):
As someone who’s never played the original due to the PC launch issues, I’m starting to feel a pull to go experience it all this time later, because the new game looks simply fantastic. Not only from a graphics standpoint, but everything: the creatures, the world, the ‘splosions.
The above trailer came about after a leak ousted the game’s existence (and the existence of many others, as we’re quickly finding out), but prefacing it, Bethesda released the ‘Announcement’ trailer yesterday:
If you like open-world FPS titles set in a dystopian universe, then Rage 2 looks to be right up your alley (and mine, too). Teaming up on the project is Avalanche Studios, developers behind the super-popular Just Cause series, and also id Software, which probably doesn’t need an introduction, but has been responsible in recent years for Doom VFR, Quake Champions, and of course, Rage.
Bethesda hasn’t announced a release date for Rage 2 yet, and don’t be tricked by the “coming soon” – it’s not going to drop until 2019. It can be preordered right now from the official website, though, and as long as you own an Xbox One, PlayStation 4, or PC, you’ve got the goods required (assuming your PC’s graphics card can hold up, of course!)
