This past May, it became known that BFG Tech, a company once known for producing some of the finest NVIDIA-powered graphics cards around, had given up on them due to their lacking ability to generate revenue (competition is tougher than ever). At that time, things seemed fine with the company’s PSU line, but not too long after, it became known that things weren’t so peachy there either.
In early July, rumors had it that BFG Tech had let go its power supply group, including the infamous Jonny Gerow (jonnyGURU). Later, Jon verified that to be true. As he put it then, “You don’t need someone in my position to continue on as a company selling the same product you’ve already been selling.” It seems like BFG Tech was doomed ever since its GPU announcement.
In Jonny’s post linked to above, it seemed certain that the company had a lot of backstock of product for RMA purposes, but as Hardware Canucks is reporting, the company hasn’t been able to work with suppliers in order to replenish the stock, so it can be assumed that the “backup” product had gone pretty quickly.
Some who took advantage of BFG Tech’s RMA process have received a letter back that states that the company “is winding down and liquidating its business” and that “we are returning your without being able to repair it.” The letter goes on to state that the company apologizes for the inconvenience. Surely though, there will be a few out there a little perturbed, and understandably so.
RIP BFG Tech, and good luck to all of its previous employees in landing into a new job.
Ever since their original statement that they were moving out the the GPU business, customers have been experiencing extensive delays when RMAing cards to BFG but in many cases RMA requests were still being honored. Now it looks like cards are being actively RETURNED to customers UNREPAIRED as BFG just doesn’t have access to replacements or the components necessary to repair the cards.
