At this point, it’s hard to picture a Corsair that doesn’t sell chassis or PSUs, but just a little over a decade ago, its portfolio was void of both products. The PSUs came first, starting off with the HX620W, which we took a look at all those years ago. From the get-go, it was clear that Corsair was on to something, and since then, we at Techgage have never not had a Corsair PSU in one of our test rigs.
Here’s another little piece of history. Another bloke who took a look at Corsair’s HX620W was one of the smartest men in the PSU realm: jonnyGURU – aka: Jon Gerow. He found, through much more exhaustive testing than our own, that Corsair’s first PSU was a winner. Fast-forward to today: Jon has been working at Corsair for close to half a decade, where he focuses on the company’s PSU products. If that’s how things work, I have a shortlist of products I should begin reviewing!
Nonetheless, to celebrate its 10th year in PSUs, Corsair has conjured up a very limited edition PSU – only 100 will be made available. Sporting an arctic white aesthetic, the RM1000i Special Edition also includes a bright white LED fan and individually sleeved cables.
As its name might suggest, the RM1000i is a 1000W power supply, and given what it’s celebrating, you can be sure that it’s one of the best-built PSUs out there. Under the hood are 100% Japanese capacitors, and on top, an 80 PLUS Gold rating.
If you don’t need or want this special edition PSU, you’re not without a way to celebrate. Tying into this launch is the unveiling of Corsair’s new “Premium PSU Cables”. These cables will become available in a variety of colors, and look quite sharp with their completely sleeved design.
Corsair is going to be selling different kit sizes, with some including a “comb” that the cables can snap into for improved cable management.
As of the time of writing, the official product page for the PSU doesn’t exist (though it should be here). To peruse the cable selection, you can head right here.
