In one of the simplest press releases sent to us by Corsair, the company today announced that it has acquired Munich-based Elgato Gaming, renowned maker of some of the most popular game recording hardware on the planet. Elgato is big in the streaming and eSports space, as is Corsair, so this seems like a match made in gaming heaven.
The terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but it was made clear that the “Elgato Eve” home business is separate from this acquisition, and will become “Eve Systems” on its own. In recent months, Corsair has made it clear that it wants to branch out its portfolio to completely dominate the gaming market. In April, an official job posting revealed that the company was planning to launch its own displays, though not much else has been revealed since then.
In a way, the Elgato acquisition could tie into Corsair’s pursuit of displays in the future. It’s not outside the realm of possibility that Corsair could release a gaming monitor with built-in streaming/capturing capabilities. Such a monitor would also need to tout a high refresh rate, so if such an all-in-one solution does become available in time, there’s one thing that’s certain: it’d be expensive.
Corsair currently offers you nearly everything you need to build your next PC, including the chassis, power supply, cooling, memory, storage, keyboard, mouse, mousepad, headset… and, even your chair. Oh, and of course, now also your game recorder hardware. Does anyone want to take a guess as to the next market Corsair plans to bleed into?
